Week 11 – Pop-graphic combination

http://www.heyreilly.com/

While online yesterday I found this pop-art artist that also use the same elements that I have been using, but in a pop-graphic and fashion scenario. I found it interesting the way he uses statues and pharaoh masks to create the composite images, using quite often the Queen Elizabeth, celebrities and politicians such as Barack Obama. I started thinking about image rights, because pop-artists use other images to create new ones, and not always they took those images. How far can you go without getting in trouble with lawsuits?

The fact that the images are transformed covers already the fact that now they belong to you, so is that enough? At the moment I am using myself quite often and, when I use another model, I ask them to sign a model release form. I will have to get better informed about this issue to continue.
